Summery fall days can make it seem like we have much more time than we do to complete as many tasks as possible before winter comes our way and makes some tasks impossible, and others more challenging to complete.

Farmer Marcellin Singo has been hard at work putting up fencing to create spaces for all of the new additions to our farm for the winter. This includes the two baby goats, 8 ducklings, 13 chicks, and 4 ducks that joined our farm this season.

Thanks to the help of our neighbor, Farmer Marcellin Singo was able to move 33 cubic yards of compost a 1/4 of a mile to the north end of our property where the high tunnel is located. This was no small task, even with help! It took them a couple of days and a lot of trips back and forth, but many less than had we hauled it with our wheelbarrow!

We have also been busy with several festivals, meeting new people, sharing our products, and listening to what people are interested in. We have another big fall festival coming up on Saturday, September 20 – the Chester Bowl Fall Fest in Duluth, MN from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. This event is a fundraiser for their programs and we’re excited to participate with the other vendors. In addition to some colorful and flavorful heirloom tomatoes, peppers, garlic, summer squash, tomatillos and other produce, we will also be bringing some of our favorite gluten-free baked goods, including 3 types of bread, and fall flavors like our Pumpkin Patch Treat Scookie!
As the farmers market season gets closer to wrapping up for the year, we have been exploring subscription options for our gluten-free baked goods based on requests from our customers wanting to know how they can find our products over the winter and spring months. We sent a survey out to a group of customers that expressed interest to better understand the needs so we can design a subscription option that will work the best for most people. If you’re interested, please take a moment to fill out the survey. We plan to share more about how to sign up, soon!

We’ve also been busy planning and building a walk-in-cooler that we got funding for thanks to a Lakewinds Organic Field Fund Grant we received. This will be a huge help as we have outgrown the fridge spaces we have.
And, we’ve been working with the Douglas County Zoning Committee to add an access road on the farm so we can finish the well installation on the north end of the farm, and eventually build a farm store.
We hope this change of season brings more opportunities to connect with our community and share stories of the farm!
